La Baells Reservoir (near Berga)
The Pantano de la Baells is a reservoir belonging to the Llobregat river, created by a dam located in the municipality of Cercs, which takes in the towns of Cercs and Vilada in the Berguedá region.
It serves to regulate the upper basin of the Llobregat river, supply water to the metropolitan area of Barcelona, and to produce hydroelectric power. The dam, which was opened in 1976, has a thick arch and double-curvature design.
To make the dam, concrete containing different-sized stones was used, with reinforced concreted used for some of the finishes.
Location: Between the towns of Cercs and Vilada.
