The MACBA contemporary art museum in Barcelona is located in a building designed by American architect Richard Meier.
It combines straight and curved lines with the aim of blending interior spaces with natural light.
MACBA was founded in 1959, on the initiative of art critic Alexandre Cirici i Pellicer, who felt the public should be given access to art of the second half of the 20th century. It opened as a museum in 1995 and, in 2006, the former church of Convent dels Angels was converted into a new exhibition space called Capella MACBA.
The museum houses a permanent collection and holds a large number of traveling exhibitions.
