The Berguedá region has a very important industrial past, as its main source of income once came from coal mining, textiles and cement. Today, all that remains is a memory, although a not-too-distant one, and a historical legacy that can be visited through different spaces.
A visit to the various textile colonies gives you the opportunity to learn about this urban development model -characteristic of the industrialisation process that began in Catalonia in the second half of the 19th century-, and to relive the daily life of those times.
The textile colonies located on the section of river from Berga to Balsareny are the most valuable, in urban design, architectural and historical terms, to be found in Catalonia. This is a unique collection of industrial colonies where thousands of people used to live and work. They share some common elements but also have their own unique elements, making each one different.
