Located in a building designed by Domènech i Montaner in 1885, the Foundation was set up by Antoni Tàpies in 1984, with the aim of promoting knowledge about modern and contemporary art.
The Foundation hosts an exhibition dedicated to the author, presented in chronological order from 1940 to the present. Visitors can learn about the formal evolution of the artist through his works.
In 1990, a sculpture by the founder, entitled “Núvol i cadira” (Cloud and Chair) was added to the building. It is made with aluminium tubing and steel wire netting, and gives the building height without detracting from the artistic importance of the façade.
