Barcelona Maritime Museum

The museum is located in Barcelona’s medieval royal shipyards, a space dedicated to shipbuilding between the 13th and 18th centuries. In 1976, the site was declared a Historic and Artistic Monument.

Since 1929, it has contained an important set of collections that illustrate Catalan maritime culture and give visitors an opportunity to learn about the country’s maritime history. The museum’s mission is to preserve, study and disseminate the most important collections of maritime heritage of the Mediterranean.

Collections include ship models, nautical instruments, votive offerings, maritime paintings, figureheads and maps. Moored in the port of Barcelona is a historic vessel from 1918, the Santa Eulàlia schooner, a 45-metre long, three-masted sailing ship.

In 2006, the Barcelona Maritime Museum was declared a Museum of National Interest.
