Designed by architect Antonio Gaudí. In the early 20th century, Eusebio Güell i Bacigalupi founded in Clot del Moro, the first Portland cement factory in Catalonia, called Asland. To fuel the furnaces they used by the coal extracted from mines in the Catllaràs mountains. Because of the considerable distance between the centre of the town of La Pobla de Lillet and the mining site, Eusebi Güell commissioned Antonio Gaudí to design the Chalet de Catllaràs to house the engineers and miners.
During his time in Valle de Lillet, Gaudí stayed with the Artigas family, owners of one of the most prosperous factories of the time. To show his gratitude for their hospitality, Gaudí designed a garden for them on the land just in front of their house and the textile mill. And so the Artigas Gardens were born, a work where nature and architecture merge in perfect harmony.
